A short summary of our week in Tamarindo…
Monday & Tuesday were cloudy, but not too rainy. We tried some surfing on Monday and the waves were perfect for a beginner. I, Rachael, didn’t quite stand up, but Devin really caught some nice waves! Tuesday we walked along the coast for a few miles to find a black sand beach se llama Playa Carbon. We had to get across two estuaries: the first a water taxi was available for us, but the second only an abandoned bridge where a crocodile hangs out (did not see any crocs). Then, some bush wacking through the jungle. Devin made a great guide and knocked away all of the spider webs. There was no one else on Playa Carbon, but we didn’t hang out long as the rain came and stayed.

Our Air BnB kitchen has provided the necessary items for cooking beans, rice and more beans and rice, and some beans and pasta. Only took flying to Costa Rica to try cooking dry beans for the first time…they are way tastier!! Eating out is comparable to restaurants in the States. Outdoor food courts/markets and food trucks are popular in Tamarindo. Beer is cheap in the grocery stores, around $3 for 1 L (about 34 oz). Coffee & dark chocolate are delectable. We splurged on a pineapple and that was an amazing treat for a few days.

The last two days, Wed & Thurs, have been SO rainy. Basically non-stop, but most of the time it is a drizzle or mist, so being outside isn’t miserable. In fact, kind of pleasant!
Due to the rain, the air bnb had some flooding because the rain water tank was too full and the pipes weren’t draining properly. Our host owns a triplex, and rents out two of the units, so we were able to move into the other, vacant apartment. Many other Costa Ricans have been fully evacuated due to nationwide flooding. Schools here were closed early in the week due to the rain, and some have turned into evacuation shelters. The rain is forecasted to let up this weekend, just in time for Michael, Colleen, and Troy to venture with us in Samara & Nosara. We can’t wait to see you!!
