We were happy to find ourselves exploring around Buenos Aires after nearly a month of a laid back lifestyle in Costa Rica. Staying in hostels, we have met mostly Europeans traveling on a similar agenda to ours. A normal question to ask and be asked is “Why Buenos Aires?”. For maybe the tango? or parrilla? some operas & ballets, perhaps? futbol? Our answer was a bit less cultured. We decided on Buenos Aires because it was the cheapest flight, surprisingly, to get us down south. Devin and I found a wild route from San Jose, Costa Rica back to Atlanta, Georgia for a 10 hour layover in ATL, and then a 10 hour overnight flight to land us in Buenos Aires. We used our Skymiles, but it was comparable to spending ~ $200, which is unheard of. SO, anyways that is how we chose Buenos Aires, and WOW I am so happy we did! I fell in love with the city, and while I can’t speak for Devin (maybe it’s time for him to share on here?!), I think he enjoyed it as a small town mountain gent can.
Arts & Stuff
It was not difficult to fill up our days in Buenos Aires, as you can expect from any large metropolitan area. We arrived to Che Juan Hostel, our home for the next few days, dropped off our clothes for laundry (~$12 it cost for the service) and went to walk around in search of food and a place to get some cash. Our first night, we ended up finding a cultural center that housed a few different art exhibits and had a free performance that night; this is one of the highlights of our entire time in Buenos Aires. Check out Camila Buch on Spotify! The next day we enjoyed a free walking tour around Recoleta and Retiro the northern neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.

On Saturday, we went to the Museo Moderno, a modern art museum (I wish translating Spanish was always that easy…). I’m not an artist, so I don’t think me writing about it will be too captivating, but maybe you might enjoy some pictures. Devin rode the bike in the last picture, due to some peer pressure from me, and the security guards didn’t really love that.
Tango Porteño
A form of dancing unique to the Rio de Plata region, the natural border between Montevideo, Uruguay and Buenos Aires, Argentina. We hadn’t planned on going to an actual tango show, hoping to catch some on the streets or in restaurants. I’m so happy we splurged on this experience: a three course meal, bottomless vino tinto, and seats mere meters from the stage. How do they move their legs so fast?! Bebida y Comida
Asado y vino (steak and wine) sums up our current diet! Please remind us that even though a steak from the store is $2.50 and a bottle of local wine is $5, it is still not the healthiest choice. Shall we return to our beans and rice? Salud!
Next stop is Mendoza for desert heat, delicious Malbecs, and maybe some treks.

Will there be fudge at Christmas dinner?
Big change: zipline, jungle, beach, surf to sophistication/steak and wine. It is good to see the city with it’s history and culture. The rest of your life you will see or read about things which will tie back to what you saw there. You will read an article and see a word, place, or piece of culture and what you are reading will be more meaningful because of this experience.
Enjoy the steak and wine! The beans and rice will soon bring you back to healthy.
What fun!! I’m so impressed with the way you’re finding local happenings to work within your budget! Miss you and love you!!
